The Buttered Bread of Chelm (2025)

This mini-opera was conceived for the Longy School of Music Opera Creation Lab. The libretto was co-written by Amy Mantis and myself. The story takes place in the town of Jewish folklore known as Chelm, which is said to contain a wise council of fools. The opera is a retelling of what happened when a homemaker, buttering their bread for breakfast, manages to break the laws of nature. It was premiered on May 13, 2025.
